Echelon Moving Update

20 Jun

moving-truck

For those customers not yet aware, Echelon Florist is currently going through a major transition leading to a relocation in a different building in the Rocky Hill Center. Our new address will be 1260 Rocky Hill Rd.
We are expanding the flower department, downsizing the gift shop. But this is great news for our gift and ornament shoppers, because we are having a massive moving sale! There is plenty to get rid of, so the merchandise is all discounted- a perfect opportunity to stock up on holiday decorations ahead of time for very low prices!

The store might be in a bit of disarray as we review and rearrange what we have and what we plan to take, but please feel free to come in and take advantage of the sale, and call if you need anything. We will keep you all updated on our progress and look forward to seeing you at the new store!

Flower of the Week- Calla Lily

14 Jun

This summer wedding season, calla lilies (Zantedeschia aethiopica) , in all their vibrant color and size variations, are quickly becoming a favorite choice for outfit decorations, bouquets, room arrangements, etc. They are well suited for any ornamental need!

Also called Trumpet lilies, Arum lilies, and Pig lilies, Calla lilies have an elegant, swooping curvature to the petal shape and have large and mini sizes. They come in white, lavender, purple, pink, red, peach, orange, yellow, green, and the very intriguing bicolored forms.

Calla lilies are perennial and require part shade, and full sun in cooler climates. They are definitely not edible, but who would want to stop looking at them any how?

They are fragrant and  last between four and eight days, but look lovely dried if you want to hold on them to remember your special occasion!

Meet Caitie Cunic
Social Media Manager & Designer

Caitie’s Story: It’s kind of a funny story how I came to be a part of the floral industry. I graduated in May of 2011 with a degree in photography. I wasn’t so keen on running my own photography business, so I started looking for a job that I could still use the skills I had learned and that would also let me be my hands on and creative self. After many weeks of scouring job boards I found an ad for a position at a florist managing their social media. It was a shot in the dark since I had no experience with flowers, but I did learn a thing or two about internet advertising in college.  I sent in my resume and Matt called me the next day for an interview. That was a year ago, and I have truly fallen in love with flowers. I have always loved being creative and working with my hands. What better way to do both of those things than to be a floral designer? I am truly greatful for the opportunities and support that Laura, Matt, and Gary have given me. I am blessed to have found a career that I am passionate about and enjoy very much. I look forward to everything I will learn in the coming years.

Caitie’s favorite type of design: I love love love doing wedding work! Bouquets in particular.

Caitie’s favorite flower: I can’t pick just 1 so I will name my top 3. Ranunculus, Anemones, & Daffodils.

Gary’s Story: I have been in the floral industry for 28 years, starting at a Knoxville icon, Baum’s Florist, and ending here at another. I feel very strongly about education in our industry, and have been to most educational programs that have been offered in this area & surrounding. I also enjoy the competitive side of our business, and have brought several trophies home to Echelon. Including; East Tennessee Professional Florist Association Designer of the year (1992, 1995, 2003, 2012), First Runner Up Tennessee State Florist Association Designer of the year (2000, 2012), Iris Cup (2000). I would love for you to stop by the shop and visit with me. I love talking to people about the power of the flower!

Gary’s favorite type of design: My favorite type of design is sympathy arrangements. I love being able to help people express their feelings in a difficult time in their life.

Gary’s favorite flower: I love all flowers,  but when each flower hits their peak season they usually stand above the rest.

Meet Laura Smith
Owner & Award Winning Designer

Laura’s Story: Since age comes before beauty, I get to start first. I have been in the floral business for over 40 years. Blessed to have found my passion at a young age I started working at a flower shop in Lafayette, CO at age 16. Throughout my life I have traveled across the United States and have been lucky to work with many talented floral designers. When my husband’s career landed us in Knoxville, TN we found Echelon Florist and I found my haven. For the last 18 years I have enjoyed going to work everyday! There isn’t a flower I don’t love or a person I don’t enjoy talking to.

Laura’s favorite type of design: I don’t really have one. I do love European hand tied and the casual country look.

Laura’s favorite flower: Anything between Alstroemeria Lilies & Zinnias
